DBO Freestyle Open 2026

The official DBO Freestyle title for 2026 will be crowned based solely on the results of this event.

Danish Open Freestyle is held alongside Danish Open Wave, sharing the event base, social activities, and evening program. To give both disciplines the best possible conditions, the competitions are run in parallel. Competitors can therefore enter either Freestyle or Wave, but not both.

We welcome everyone from first-time competitors to seasoned freestyle veterans. See you on the water!

Fleets

  • The A fleet requires competitors to perform at least 2 jumping moves, where the fin leaves the water.

  • The B fleet is for windsurfers at an intermediate level, where any moves count - regardless of which tack they are performed on. Participants may perform a maximum of one jumping move.

  • Separate fleets for Women/Junior/Master classes can be held if there are enough registrants.

Venue
The event base is NASA in Klitmøller, where group activities can be held alongside the wave events.

DBO Freestyle will be held at the best spot of the day; we aim for a maximum of 1 hour’s drive from the event base. The B division will not be held in the North Sea, but at spots where everyone can participate. The A division will be held at the same spot as the B division, unless there is no wind anywhere other than in the ocean.

Judging & Scoring
The format is “riders judge riders.” Participants in the A fleet commit to be available to judge other riders’ heats. This ensures that judges are familiar with the discipline and the moves, resulting in a fairer evaluation. The Freestyle Committee - composed of experienced, selected freestylers - also helps by spotting and judging as many heats as possible.

Each trick is evaluated based on both execution and technical difficulty. The number of tricks to count is determined by the Freestyle Committee based on conditions and skill level. A lack of diversity is penalized, meaning that tricks that belong to the same family or category are awarded lower scores.

If you do not wish to act as a judge, please indicate this in the comment field upon registration. Please note that this must be approved by the Freestyle Committee before your registration is finalized.

Rules

To ensure fair heats, participants are seeded based on previous results. New and lower-seeded participants will compete against each other in a qualifying round, to allow everyone the opportunity to compete against opponents of similar skill levels.

Competition will be conducted according to the DBO Freestyle Rulebook, which is published prior to the event along with the complete move list.

Registration

Upon registration, please indicate the fleet you wish to participate in, as well as the brand and color of your primary equipment.

Are you thinking about participating for the first time? We’ve made it even easier! For the first time this year, membership of DBO (or other national union) is not required for new participants in the B fleet. Additionally, the entry fee is dramatically reduced for your first event.

Be sure to register well in advance.

  • Late registration (10 days before the event): surcharge of 200% applies.

  • Last-minute registration (1 day before the event): additional fee of 100 kr. will be charged during registration.

Note: If the registration count below seems lower than expected, it is because riders who secured their entry through registrations made earlier in the season are not included.
